Here’s our definitive guide to staying at Le Mas. We’ve included facts, top tips and a few warnings.
Beds
There are a total of 4 double beds in the main house. Three of these can be separated into singles if necessary and one is a massive 2 metres wide. One room also has another single bed. There are 2 camp beds, a number of mattresses for surprise visitors and a couple of cots for the small ones.
Le Petit Mas has one large double bedroom and another with 2 single beds. There is also a sofa bed in the sitting room.
So in total the property can comfortably sleep a good crowd of friends… but there are only 3 bathrooms!
Breakages or Losses
If you do break anything please be honest. Please let us know. The inventory list should show already damaged items. If you can replace with some similar and appropriate please do so and leave a note to avoid confusion and speculation.
Cars
Please park all cars in the open barn and do not drive them onto the grass in front of the house.
Cutlery
A good selection of cutlery can be found in the cupboard to the right of the kitchen sink in Le Mas and to the left of the sink in Le Petit Mas. Other kitchen tools are in the drawers of the kitchen table.
Dangers
Kids are welcome to enjoy themselves in the barns but this is an old property so be careful of loose timbers, stones and uneven surfaces. All and any injuries are at the risk of any visitors and we cannot accept responsibilities for any upsets.
Doctor
The local doctor is in rue St Jacques, Monpazier. Tel 0553.22.60.69
Eating
There are kitchen / dining tables in both houses but you may prefer to eat at one of the tables positioned on all of the 5 terraces. There are plastic chairs which can be used for outdoor seating. If these are not already out they can be found in the large barn.
The covered terrace facing the church is the best location for breakfast or if the weather is inclement. There is big barbecue pit to the side of the courtyard and wire grills in the barn.
Electricity
The electricity in Le Mas is turned on in the sitting room. Behind the picture which hangs to the left of the fire place. The Le Petit Mas power supply is in the small utility room beyond the kitchen.

Fires
You are welcome to have to have a fire in the fireplaces in either house. There is pre-cut wood that can be used in the closed store room in the corner of the open barn and in the closed store room just inside the doors to the lane. Please do not use any of the larger timbers which we are storing for building work. Most of the wood is chestnut and some of this can pop and spark so please be sure to use the fireguard. If you have had fires then before you leave can you please sweep out the fireplace.
Flowers & Plants
We would be very pleased if you could water any thirsty flowers & plants, particularly the geraniums. Thank-you.
Games
There is a petanque set (boules) under the stairs and several games, playing cards and a frisbee in the sideboard /dresser. There is a table-tennis table in the large barn. Please do not leave it outside during rain.
Gas
The cookers in both of the kitchen run on bottled gas. In Le Mas, the cylinder is keep in the cupboard to the right of the cooker and the valve on its top may need to be turned on. There should be a spare cylinder in one of the barns. The cylinder, and spare, in Le Petit Mas is in the utility room. If neccessary you can get gas from the garage in St. Marcory or grocery shop in rue St. Jacques.
Hammocks
There should 1 or 2 in the chest of drawers in the downstairs bedroom of Le Mas. These can be relocated wherever you like. There are connecting ropes already tied to two acacia trees on the area above the barbecue please do not leave it out in the rain. Under the covered terraces on both houses there are hooks or wooden pegs at just the right distance.
Heating
There are a number of electric radiators situated around the Le Mas house or stored in the barn. These can be relocated if the weather is letting you down! Le Petit Mas has underfloor heating. The power for this is separately marked on the electricity board in the utility room and there are thermostats at the entrance to this room and on the way through to the downstairs bedroom
Iron and Kettle
In the main house, there is an iron in the cupboard under the stairs in the kitchen and an electric kettle in the sideboard. In Le Petit Mas both can be found in the utility room
Keys
Our neighbour, Guy Lascombe has a spare set of keys if needed. His house is the complex down the hill on the right hand side.
Outdoor Seating
There are sunbeds and deckchairs for use around the pool. These may be stored in the large barn.
Police
The local police station is on left just before entering Monpazier from Belves. Tel 0553.22.60.17
Pool
Please make sure that young children are properly supervised around the swimming pool and the ponds at the front and back of the property. We cannot accept any responsibility for accidents. Please be careful not to throw or kick objects eg stones, into the pool. Be extra careful with glasses. The filter room is situated under the pool and is accessed via a door on the church side of the pool. The pool is looked after by Guy Lascombe. If you have any queries or concerns, please contact him.
Problems
If you have any problems, for example no water, no hot water, no electricity, etc. please contact Guy Lascombe (0553.22.63.09). Guy is our neighbour. He lives in the next house along the top road behind Le Petit Mas and he helps look after our property.
Rubbish
We re-use supermarket bags in the little kitchen bin. When full these need to be taken to the communal roll-top rubbish bins. Two are situated at the bottom of the hill on the left. A further two are up the hill past the farm on the left.
Telephone
You are welcome to use the phone. We have an itemised bill and can recharge for calls made during your stay at the house. For international calls just dial 00 followed by the country code and number. (i.e. 00 44 for the UK, 00 1 for the USA, etc.)
Water
If the water is not already turned on when you arrive, the tap is located under a panel in the garden behind and up the bank to the right of Le Petit Mas.
The water should be turned on before the electricity. Beware once the water has heated up it is very hot as soon as you turn the hot water tap on. Please be careful with children.
